SUCCESSFUL TREATMENT OF ACCIDENTAL COIN INGESION BY A CHILD

A 3-year-old girl presented to Saraswati Kidney Care Centre (a unit of SS Multipseciality Hospital emergency) with a history of accidental coin ingestion about 2 hours ago. She had significantly more difficulty swallowing as the coin was stuck in the upper part of the food pipe.

During endoscopy, the foreign body was seen impacted just below the upper esophageal sphincter. With special instruments (rat-tooth forceps), the coin was dislodged and then successfully removed. The coin was handed back to the parents, and the child went home comfortably after the procedure.
